What the explorer measures
A transparent, reproducible view of country-level remittance totals—not bilateral corridors.
Source and coverage
The release uses the World Bank’s annual inward and outward remittance-flow workbooks, published in July 2025 and covering observation years 2000–2024. Values are current nominal US dollars, in millions.
Normalization
Only headers that explicitly parse as years 2000 through 2024 are imported. Source country labels are preserved, whitespace and known naming variants are mapped to World Bank ISO3 identities, and uncertain matches fail validation instead of being silently assigned.
Missing values and zeros
A blank workbook cell remains missing. A numeric zero remains zero. Rankings exclude missing values but retain reported numeric zeros; every ranking uses one selected observation year.
Calculated net position
Net position equals inward less outward. It is produced only when both inputs exist for the same economy and year. It is always labeled calculated, with both inputs shown.
Workbook caveats
The source notes cite IMF balance-of-payments definitions and describe estimation for some country gaps. The outward workbook specifically identifies the United Arab Emirates’ 2024 outward value as an estimate. It also contains a populated non-remittance column outside the 2000–2024 table; the importer rejects that column.
Reproducibility
The browser reads generated JSON, never Google Sheets. A validated local snapshot is committed so the website can build if the editorial Sheet is temporarily unavailable.
